The World Design Capital is a city promotion project to recognise cities around the world in the field of design. Dublin City Council entered a bid for 2014 which was shortlisted to the final three entries. The book comprises of research, writing and design promoting a city that understands the need for reinvention by design. The submission included a series of short films documenting conversations between designers.

Running to over 400 pages, the PIVOT Dublin WDC2014 bid sets out in 44 chapters a description of Dublin’s design strengths, with detailed and costed proposals for a year of design with lasting legacy outcomes.

A key aspect of the book is that it contained a survey of the city’s design industries across all fields, covering education, economic contribution, design infrastructure and public engagement. This was the most comprehensive survey of the combined design sectors in the Dublin region ever undertaken and, together with the strategy for developing design in the city which formed the core of the bid proposals, this will be an important reference document for years to come.

The book is available in all public libraries in Dublin city and county areas and can be seen online here.

The printed copies of the book were bound in a range of individual covers designed by various Dublin creatives which can be seen below.
