Conversations is a series of three short films, shot in homes across Dublin in which groups of five people with diverse opinions on design engage in lively, thought-provoking discussions. The films focus on the potential legacy of Dublin as World Design Capital and have fed into PIVOT Dublin’s four proposed themes: Connecting Cities, Making Cities Lighter, Making Cities Flow, and Making Cities Smile.
Dialogue is a film project initiated by PIVOT Dublin but sustained by the members of Dublin’s vast creative community, each of whom is filmed in their studio or workspace. The film begins with a question about design, posed by PIVOT Dublin. The first respondent then posed a question to the next respondent to reply to, and so on. Contributers did not know the identity of the person who selected them, but they did know whom they, in turn, put a question to.
Participants were asked to communicate the question visually where possible, whether by writing it down, typing it, animating it or drawing it. The film is presented as a linear edit and as a series of short clips. It captures the diversity and energy of the design and creative community in Dublin, and is a fascinating snapshot of contemporary design practice.
