Big thanks to guest curator Dr David Robinson in association with Trinity College Dublin and the Mercer’s Institute for Successful Ageing. David and other people in various fields of expertise contributed their insights into how we can discover new approaches to meeting the challenges and opportunities that an ageing society brings.

• David introduces the programme with a piece titled No Country for Old Men.
• Demographics Coming Change by Pr Rose Anne Kenny explores and presents the reasons behind the constantly growing ageing population globally.
• Older People, Well-Being and the Urban Environment explores our cities today and how more often than not, their design doesn’t lend itself well to the needs of the elderly.
• Shake, rattle and roll – can we change the Dublin Bus experience for us as we age? by Desmond O’Neill presents an everyday transport system that may prove to be an obstacle in the minds of many – Dublin Bus.
• Age Friendly Service Design at NCAD by Sam Russell, explores the potion of using mapping of localised areas to create non clinical health services, particularly for the elderly.
• Healthcare Technology: mutating the design DNA tackles the question of technology in healthcare, and how it could be implemented so that there was more healthcare carried out at home rather than in hospitals, especially among the ageing population.
• Asset mapping in Chicago reinforces the idea behind Sam Russell’s post. It introduces a new initiative founded by Stacy Lindau, David Robinson and others, called Local Asset Mapping Project (LAMP). LAMP explores in full the opportunities for the ageing society in urban centres that could be realised by this simple, accessible process.
• Local Asset Mapping Transforming Dublin into an age friendly place informs us further about LAMP and their work and to elaborate on their general vision for the ageing population of Dublin.
